Therapeutix Acne Treatment Review
Therapeutix (developed by Dr. Debra Luftman) uses the ever popular three step system to treat acne. These steps are:
- Clarity clarifying cleanser. This contains 0.5% salicylic acid solution which gently unblocks pores. It is kind to the skin and instensely moisturises the skin ironing out fine lines. It doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals so can be used daily. It also contains Witch Hazel which is a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces the appearance of acne symptoms and lessens their impact on the skin thus preventing future acne scars.
- Care and Repair SPF 15 Sun Screen Moisterizing Lotion. This is a vitamin enriched moisturiser that also protects against harmful UV rays which can damage and age the skin whilst aggravating acne. It is an oil free formular so is much more acne friendly than other sun protection products
- Clear Complex Night Lotion. This is a vitamin enriched tonic that aids the skin’s healing process that occurs mostly at night. It has a low solution of salicylic acid to help clear the pores and contains zinc that reduces redness and irritation.
So, what do we like about Therapeutix. It is kind to the skin and is one of the few treatments that encorporates sun protection. The vitamins included promote skin health so that it is better equipped to fight acne by itself
What we think Therapeutix is lacking is a more effective skin oil (Sebum) reducing agent. Zinc will help a bit but it is nowhere near as powerful as benzoyl peroxide. Therapeutix makes a point of not including benzoyl peroxide as it says that it is too harsh on the skin. It is true that some people can have negative reactions to medium and high levels of Benzoyl peroxide but if the concentration is low than the negative effects can be neutralised with natural healing ingredients (such as Aloe Vera)
In Conclusion, this product is very kind to the skin but it is not that effective at treating acne. If you had very mild to mild acne than this could clear it up and if you have very sensitive skin than Therapeutix could be your choice although it is not that much milder than Exposed, but is very expensive for the performance it gives. It you did want to avoid Benzoyl Peroxide altogether than Zenmed would be your best treatment.
