Top 3 Highest Rated Acne Treatments        Updated August 2010

#1 – Exposed – Our most highly recommended Acne Product

Exposed acne treatment combines the two most popular scientific acne treatments (Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid) and keeps them both at levels that are friendly to the skin. This means that clearing your pores and preventing blackheads and whiteheads can be done whilst at the same time not being overly harsh. Such a powerful combination means that even people with very sensitive skin can have the most powerful treatment available. But Exposed doesn’t stop there. It also utilises many natural treatments for acne (Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Liquorice Root to name a few) which help clear the pores, aid healing which prevents future acne scars, removing dead skin cell and kill bacteria. Exposed has received the highest rating from our customers who also commended their excellent customer service. It uses FDA approved ingredients and has been proven to be Hypoallergenic. #2 – Acnezine – Highly Recommended

Acnezine is a two pronged attack on acne. Firstly it uses the ever popular scientific treatment, Benzoyl Peroxide. This clears the excess Sebum and kills the bacteria from deep within the pore. The second acne treating prong to the attack is to help the body fight acne from the inside. It uses supplements (like Vitamin E) that gives your natural immune system a boost that helps your skin to heal itself and become acne free. Again, this acne product uses the power of nature (with ingredients like Tea Tree Oil, Honey and Witch Hazel) to boost the effectiveness of this treatment for acne and make the effects longer lasting. Most products neglect the internal aspect of treating acne and therefore never quite reach their full potential, but Acnezine goes on a full attack. It can be a little harsher than Exposed and doesn’t contain Salicylic Acid which is why it just misses out on the top spot. That said, Acnezine is one of the most effective acne treatments on the market today and gets great results.  READ ON FOR FULL ACNEZINE REVIEW

#3 – Zenmed – Also Recommended

Zenmed acne treatment really puts the focus on natural acne remedies with oral cleanse capsules that contain some great natural ingredients (such as Milk Thistle, Burdock root and red peony root). This is because the people at Zenmed are strong believers that acne is an internal problem and by addressing this you can get the best treatment for acne. It even goes so far as to naturally regulate hormone changes, which is the core cause of acne. However, this does not mean that they have neglected the external fight against acne as they have included the great scientific acne treatment that is Salicylic Acid which works to unblock pore and promote an accelerated renewal of skin (also used in the anti-ageing industry).  It misses out on our Top 2 spots because it isn’t quite as effective Exposed and Acnezine  but is still a great product and and with a score of 8.9/10 we definately thought that it was worth a mention.  Zenmed has long lasting effects and fantastic health benefits that go beyond treating acne.  READ ON FOR FULL ZENMED REVIEW

Key functions for Treating Acne

Acne is caused by hormonal change that effects the Sebaceous Gland in the hair follicle. The changes in hormones cause this gland to over produce a substance called Sebum which is the natural skin oil. When too much of this skin oil is produced it gets clogged under the pore and that is when blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, zits and acne cysts all start to appear. These symptoms of acne can be made worse by bacteria levels in the skin, as these causes the immune system to start to fight it by releasing white blood cells (or pus) into the follicle lining and increasing the blood flow. Because acne vulgaris is caused by hormone change it makes it difficult to find an acne cure. But with the best acne treatment you can live a life without these symptoms. When reading treatment for acne reviews you should make sure that the ingredients used can do the following tasks:

  1. Remove and reduce Sebum
  2. Kills bacteria
  3. Unblock pores
  4. Reduce Inflammation

Stop Future Acne Scars

By getting the best treatment now (and especially one with anti-inflammatory properties) you can reduce future scarring after acne. Acne scar treatment can be expensive and in extreme cases it has to be done with laser treatment which can have varying effects.

Your Daily Acne Checklist

So this might be the best post that we have made for helping those with acne. There is so much conflicting information that overload the acne sufferer so we have decided to release a basic daily checklist of things that you can do to improve your acne. This is not an all inclusive list and there might be some methods that you are using that work for you but everything on this list works and if you stick to it that it can really help your acne. So here is your daily routine:

Some people will find this plan easier to stick to than others but I challenge all of you to give it a go just for a month. Be really disciplined. Say to yourself that the month starts on a specific date (preferably today but if not select a day next week when this will start and then start on that day)

If you fail to stick to this routine it is probably because you think that it will not clear your acne so why bother putting in the effort. This routine WILL improve your acne if you stick to it for a month or your money back (OK, we haven’t charged for this information but plenty of people have and they all offer a money back guarantee which no-one will claim). If you can avoid touching your acne and lead a healthy lifestyle drinking plenty of water and only washing twice a day your acne WILL get better and might even completely clear (and you will feel so much better too)

The five Secrets to Treating Acne

After reading several questions that are being sent to us there are some people who have had acne for a long time and just can’t seem to get rid of it. Some of these people have been going to Acne Clinics or the doctors for all this time and they just don’t make the situation any better.

We at AcneTreatmentAdvice.org were surprised by this because the professionals seemed to be prescribing what we thought kept in keeping with the what we would have thought (which, of course, they should as they are professionals). So, why weren’t our readers who just couldn’t get rid of acne not benefiting from these professionals? Well, not quick to shy away from a challenge, we decided that we would look into this further and investigate whether some people do have extremely stubborn acne or was something being overlooked.

Sure enough, we found some stuff that was being overlooked by the doctors. Now, I am not going to imply that doctors don’t know what they are talking about and you shouldn’t go to one because they do and you should especially if you have severe acne. However, some doctors (from what we have heard) just look at the condition and match it to the various acne medications that they have available. Once the condition is matched to the medication, their job is done. But treating acne can be so much more than just a medication that can be prescribed and some of our readers were left in the dark about this.

So, to help you all out. Here are our 5 top secrets that some doctors fail to mention that could actually improve your acne more than any prescription:

1) Never pick, pop or play with your acne

So simple.

Some people can find that their acne almost cures itself when they can overcome the urge to pop or squeeze their acne. Most people who have bad acne do not know how important this is and find it difficult to stop. There are ways that you can can condition yourself to stop. The best way is to make yourself aware of when you are doing. If you find yourself squeezing a pimple, give yourself a burning. Say to yourself that you are making your situation worse and that when you have popped your pimple you have actually made it stay there for an extra month and given yourself 5 new pimples. Was it worth it?

So many of the people that we speak to have not been told this by their doctor. Why? This is so important it is unreal but doctors look at the condition as something that needs medication and completely neglect the simple changes in habit that can make all the difference.

2) Drink Loads of Water

Again this is something that can really help. We have spoken to acne sufferers who said that this technique alone cleared up their moderate acne. One person in particular who had been going to see a doctor for 5 years said that he had never been told this and was drinking only 2 glasses of water a day rather than the 8 (at least) that you should be drinking.

Drinking loads of water hydrates the skin. Hydrated skin is more youthful and elastic which means it can heal better and fight acne naturally. Also, quicker healing means that blemishes are around for a shorter period of time which means that your face will be clearer.

If your skin is dehydrated it is dry (obvious assumption I know). Dry skin means that the outer layer can die off meaning that there will be more dead skin cells which can get clogged in the follicle pore causing more acne symptoms.

Drinking lots of water also detoxifies the skin which means that there will be less irritation so you are less likely to touch or rub your acne.

3) Don’t go overboard on washing your skin

Most doctors will tell you to wash your skin twice a day, and this is correct, but they won’t emphasize that you should not wash more than this. Many of the acne sufferers that we have spoken to have said that they used to wash more than this because they thought the more you washed the more acne you could clear.

It is a natural reaction to wash several times a day because you want to be taking a proactive approach to clearing your acne but washing can irritate the skin which can make your symptoms worse. If you are using harsh cleansers then it can dry out your skin which can also cause more acne symptoms (as if it your skin was dehydrated).

You should only wash your skin twice a day. Once in the morning and once again in the afternoon or early evening.

4) Use a good acne treatment

A good acne treatment can make a huge difference to your condition, if you use it correctly. There are two active ingredients that you can look out for:

Benzoyl Peroxide – This clears the skin of excess oil. Use a low level of Benzoyl Peroxide as this is enough to do the job and it won’t irritate your skin to the point of actually making your acne worse.

Salicylic Acid – This is great for unblocking your pores which means that the oil produced within the skin can get to the surface without causing any acne symptoms.

Acne Antibiotics – If you have severe acne or inflammatory acne speak to your doctor about going on a course of acne antibiotics as this works at a deeper level.

If you can only choose one of the active ingredients above then it is important that you choose the right one to match your skin. If you have very greasy skin then this is probably what is causing your acne so use benzoyl peroxide. If you have dry skin but are still getting acne then use salicylic acid as blocked pores are probably what is causing your condition (drink lots of water too).

5) Ignore your acne

This is the final step. If you are doing everything that is mentioned above then the best thing you can do now is to ignore your acne. I know that it is tough as it is there every time you look in the mirror but this will really help.

If you ignore your acne then you will be less inclined to touch it. Also, studies have shown that stress can make acne worse so by stressing over your acne you are making it worse.

So, just be safe in the knowledge that it will eventually go. As long as your are not touching it, you are drinking lots of water and you are only washing twice a day with a good acne treatment then it will go. Maybe not in a week or even a month but it will go so the best thing you can do is relax about it.

Another acne question resolved

Here is question that we found on the internet and resolved:

“Can anyone tell me the best products for severe acne ?

my face starts to grow acne since i use this one branded product and it caused me a lot of troubles . i tried different kind of products but none of them is working . so i hope any of you that also experienced this kind of problem can share me few products that ACTUALLY WORK .”
Our Answer was:
Hi there,

Yeah, I had pretty bad acne and it is a real pain to get rid of but I can give you a few tips.

With regards to acne treatment:

Branded products, most of the time, will not work by themselves for severe acne as Severe acne needs an extra helping hand to treat. That said they should not be ignored. You said that the one you used before made things worse? Did it have a high concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide (5% or higher)? This can irritate the skin and make acne worse. Also some treatments contain Salicylic Acid which can make acne worse for a short time but improve it after a couple of weeks.

So the best treatment is one that contains a bit of Benzoyl Peroxide (2.5%) and a bit of Salicylic acid as this will deal with all the external factors.

If you have inflammatory acne (big red pimples that swell up) than antibiotics are the best acne treatment for these as they help kill the bacteria from deep within the skin which is causing the large swelling.

Use those two tips and you should be able to clear your acne in a couple of months.

Also, Never pick or squeeze your pimples as this massively makes things worse. Few people realize how much damage this can do and if you can stop yourself then your acne will instantly improve. Drink loads and loads of water and do a bit of exercise.

All these tips cleared my acne which was really really bad and I hope that it can do the same for you.

Best

John

Question about Benzoyl Peroxide

Here is some acne help that we gave to a question we found on the internet.

The question was:

Benzoyl Peroxide (b.p) Acne?

Over the last two weeks i started using a Clean and Clear acne cleanser with 5% benzoyl peroxide. The first week it was REALLY drying and my skin was no longer oily, and all of my pimples dissappeared. This second week however, its like my skin is used to the b.p now it doesnt dry my skin at all like it used to, my skin is oily again and my pimples are back. Does this happen to others using b.p?, does it still work when you dont feel it drying? and should i go to 10%b.p now and where can i buy it if so? Thanx”
Our answer to the Question was:
Hi there,

Research shows that a jump from 2.5% B.P to 5% doesn’t increase the positive outcome by all that much and the increase is even less when jumping from 5-10% b.p.

However, if your skin is feeling oily again there are a few other ingredients that you can use that will help.

Have you tried Tea Tree Oil. This is a natural ingredient which works in the same way as b.p. (although not as effective it is kinder to the skin) to remove oil from the skin. You can find this in various shower gels.

Or Salicylic Acid. This is another very popular acne treatment which helps unblock pores and it does get rid of a bit of the oil (although not nearly as much as B.P.). If you are having success with B.P. than I wouldn’t switch to treatment that is Salicylic Acid based but some treatments do contain both.

Also, Vitamin B5 supplements help reduce the production of grease in the skin so that could help too.

Hope this helps,

John

Benzoyl Peroxide makes my skin itch in some areas why?

Here is a question that we recently answered and we thought that we would post it here so that it might help other people too.

Okay so i am doing the acne.org regimen and i have to put lots of bp..plenty and well it makes my skin itchy here and there which is annoying. Is anyone doing the acne.org regimen and why does the bp treatment do that ??oh yeah and i am using it on my face..

Our Answer was:

Loads of people I know have had problems with Benzoyl Peroxide and that is because it is designed to remove all the oil from the skin.

Acne is caused when there is too much oil in the skin and it gets blocked in the skin pore. You do need to get rid of this oil but the skin needs some oil to function properly.

By the sound of it, your acne treatment has removed too much oil and it is starting to really irritate your skin so stop using it for a while (otherwise it will make your acne worse)

There are a few studies out there that suggest that 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide is best because when you double the concentration to 5% it doesn’t improve acne significantly and is more likely harm your skin.

What % is the acne.org treatment?

Have you tried Salicylic Acid in combination with a low concentration of BP?

Hope this helps
